Stapleton Road Public Art Project

​

Studio Meraki was commissioned as the art producer for a major public art project delivered in partnership with Eastside Community Trust. Together, we commissioned seven female artists to collaborate with the diverse communities along Stapleton Road in Easton, creating artworks that reflect the area’s cultural richness and lived experience.

Working closely with Studio Meraki, each artist engaged local residents in dialogues, workshops, and creative exchanges to ensure community voices were embedded within the design process. This collaborative approach shaped artworks that respond directly to the identities, histories, and everyday rhythms of Stapleton Road, grounding the project firmly in place.

The final artworks included 24 large‑scale lamppost banners spanning the full one‑mile length of Stapleton Road, as well as a landmark mural on the side of a house on Clare Street, which was installed in April 2024. Together, these interventions form a vibrant visual narrative that celebrates the people and cultures that define the area.

This project is part of the City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme, funded by Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority’s Love Our High Streets initiative.
